How much does assisted living cost per month?
In Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, assisted living ranges in the following: semi-private $1,200-$2,500 and private $3,000 – $6,000 per month.
Does Medicare pay for any living expenses?
Medicare does NOT pay for any long-term living expenses.

Can you bring your own furniture?
It is common that you are permitted to bring your own furniture. Most do supply furniture, but you may bring your own if you like.
Can you bring your own refrigerator and television?
Yes.
Are pets permitted?
Every facility is different and has their own rules regarding pets.
Are you permitted to come and go as you please?
All facilities allow you to come and go as you please. However, you do need to sign in and out. Secure units for Alzheimer’s and dementia do not allow residents to leave unless accompanied by a responsible individual.
Are you allowed to administer your own medications?
No.
Is food provided under the monthly food with all levels of care?
Yes.
Is laundry included in the monthly fee?
Each facility has a different policy regarding laundry. Some include it in the monthly fee and some charge an additional fee.
Is there an additional charge for cable and phone service?
Each facility is different. Some facilities include cable and phone service and some charge an extra fee.
What are upcharges and do all facilities add upcharges?
When signing a contract with a facility, there should be a list of what type of services are covered for your monthly rate. If there are upcharges, they should be defined so that you know what you will be expected to pay.
Are patients able to keep their current doctors while living in a facility?
You are permitted to continue with the care of your current doctor if you wish. However, you may be responsible to pay for transport to and from the office visits.
Are patients able to drive and own a car while living in a facility?
Yes. If patients are able to drive, they are permitted to own and operate a vehicle.
Are patients permitted to have alcohol in their room?
Yes with an MD order/permission.
What happens if we run out of money?
This is handled per facility policy and by a case-by-case basis.
What happens if we choose a Semi-Private room, and the residents don’t like each other?
Facilities will move residents to another room to resolve any personality conflicts.
Are their Veterans programs that help pay for care?
The VA has an Aide and Attendance program that helps to pay for veteran’s care. Call us for more information
Are there visiting hours and restrictions?
Some facilities have restrictions, and some do not.
Is smoking permitted in these facilities?
Most facilities do permit smoking in designated areas only.
How long does the lease/contract last?
Most facilities require a commitment to stay 30 days and also require a 30-day move out notice.
